The representatives, from four civil service central consultative councils and four major service-wide staff unions, added that they will continue to encourage civil service colleagues to vote with their families and friends.
At the meeting, Mr Chan noted that the December 10 poll is the first large-scale citywide election to be held following improvements to the district governance system and the reform of district councils, thereby making it of utmost significance to the steadfast and successful implementation of “one country, two systems” as well as the good governance of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
The Chief Secretary stressed that the civil service, as a key component of the Hong Kong SAR Government’s governance system, plays an irreplaceable role in governing Hong Kong effectively and maintaining the city’s stability and prosperity.
He added that apart from implementing and supporting the Hong Kong SAR Government’s policy initiatives, civil servants should also fulfil their civic duty of voting in the DC election.
Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung, who was also at the meeting, said she expected more than 30,000 civil servants to be on electoral duty at different posts on polling day. Arrangements will be made for them to return to their constituencies to cast their ballots.
Mr Chan and Mrs Yeung appealed to all civil service colleagues to lead by example and vote, together with their families and friends, on December 10.
