Working family scheme adjusted

The Government today announced that it will reduce the working hour requirements of the Working Family Allowance Scheme from June 2021 to May 2022 and abolish the Individual-based Work Incentive Transport Subsidy Scheme from June.   The reduction of the working hour requirements for the WFA is a time-limited measure to provide additional support to working individuals and families with financial difficulties amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has led to worsening employment and economic conditions.   For non-single-parent households, the working hour requirement for basic allowance will be reduced by half to 72 hours per month while that for medium allowance will be reduced from 168 to 132 hours per month.   The existing working hour requirements of 36, 54 and 72 hours per month for basic, medium and higher allowances for single-parent households will remain unchanged.   Regarding the abolition of the Individual-based Work Incentive Transport Subsidy, the last claim month of the scheme will be May. Applicants can submit their last applications with claim months up to May by August 31.   Additionally, the Government will maintain the income and asset limits of all types of households of the WFA Scheme. As for the transport subsidy, the $11,000 income limit and the $99,000 asset limit per month will be frozen before the scheme ends in June.   Call 2558 3000 for enquiries.
