59 pollution convictions in December

The Environmental Protection Department today announced it recorded 59 convictions for pollution offences in December last year.   Thirty-three convictions were under the Public Cleansing & Prevention of Nuisances Regulation, while 11 were under the Waste Disposal Ordinance.   There were also six convictions each for air and noise pollution, two for water pollution and one under the Product Eco-responsibility Ordinance.   The heaviest fine was $50,000 given to a company for failing to deliver chemical waste to a reception point or dispose the waste at a licensed disposal site.
